Garden

Kotkaniemi is a significant destination in terms of garden and building history. It introduces the life of the enlightened people of the early 20th century in the countryside. During the restauration implemented by the state in 2016-2017, the garden was restored to its 1930s look. It contains many traditional and original plants.

The courtyard had a decorative garden on the side of the main entrance, with passageways leading visitors to the house. On the side of the lake was a vast vegetable garden, which in many ways secured the self-sufficiency of the farm. Ellen participated in the daily care of the garden, uprooting and watering as well as harvesting the crop.

Today the vegetable garden is being maintained by local volunteers in the spirit of Ellen Svinhufvud.
